Sunnyside Adventist Care Centre in Saskatchewan, Canada, joined the Eden Registry on August 9, 2017. This home is tucked away in a neighborhood surrounded by great views of the lovely Saskatchewan River. The river provides the backdrop for the dining room, where the 97 Elders that live here eat each day. The philosophy of care at Sunnyside Adventist Care Centre is based on the example of Christ, who went about healing, establishing relationships, increasing faith, and doing good. It is their purpose to live by this example. To do this, they focus on offering the highest level of person-directed care. The home is divided into three neighborhoods, which foster deep and continuous friendships that are nurtured and grown between the Elders and their care partners. The neighborhoods each have their own atmosphere and plan their own daily events. The Elders’ rhythm of daily life are honored, as they naturally awaken to find breakfast ready for them. In addition, there is a kitchenette available for those within the community to use to prepare foods of their choosing. Lots of baking and conversations happen there. Thursday evening is ballroom dancing night. And Elders enjoy playing games like Farkle, gardening, or simply sitting next to the fireplace listening to the piano. Their vision is “To be a home that supports Christian values and one another to live a meaningful and abundant life.” By keeping this vision alive, they are sure to reach their goal of alleviating loneliness, helplessness and boredom for the Elders and employees that live and work at Sunnyside Adventist Care Centre.
